LYON, France—Many spectacular events will be held in France this year but none will move the audience like Shen Yun Performing Arts. Marina Collomb, a retired hospital director, found Shen Yun’s performance to be absolutely magical.

“It’s the first time I’ve seen this performance, and it was a real moment of beauty, of magic. There’s something that lifts the soul in a way; something divine, pure,” said Ms. Collomb.

Shen Yun is based in New York and its mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, including presenting the truth of China before communism.

“It’s courageous, admirable that these people are keeping ancestral traditions alive. It’s something that should be possible in every country. It’s sad when you can’t stay in your own country to express these values and have to express them outside your own borders,” said Ms. Collomb.

She also shared that seeing Shen Yun brought her “joy—like an opening of the heart.”

Ms. Collomb feels that if we open our hearts, everyone can feel this joy.

“I think we’re all carriers of a little spark within us, and if we’re open in our hearts, we can pick up on these things,” she said.

Ms. Collomb expressed: “In our current times where many things are dark and gray, [Shen Yun] is something that raises the energy in oneself and allows you to dream—it was magnificent. I’m very happy to have discovered this show.”

China’s 5,000 years of history shows that the people, dynasty after dynasty, upheld values such as filial piety and faithfulness. Ms. Collomb expressed that seeing these values in Shen Yun warned her heart.

“The values of humility, kindness, simplicity, solidarity, the values of the heart, sharing, and, respect for others, too. Respect for life, respect for nature. I’ve known so many things in my life that are the opposite of all that, so when I see this—it feels good,” she said.

Shen Yun’s dancers are trained in classical Chinese dance, which is an ancient art form where many other sports like acrobatics and gymnastics originated.

“I discovered that classical Chinese dance incorporates aerobatics, practically acrobatics, and I think it’s extraordinary that you can soar like that,” said Ms. Collomb.

Claude-Louis Collomb, the retired CEO of Cofitex, was also at the performance. He expressed that Shen Yun is a performance that shouldn’t just be experienced with the eyes but with the heart.

“This show has a lot of spirituality if you look at it with your heart and not with your eyes. As Saint-Exupéry said so well, you can’t see well with your eyes, you can only see with your heart,” said Mr. Collomb.

Shen Yun presents the crimes against humanity committed by the Chinese Communist Party, and Mr. Collomb expressed that the performance is a force that cannot be stopped.

“There’s always a little melancholy. And, of course, you can’t revive everything in two hours like that. [Shen Yun] is not a flame, it’s a fire ... it’s a real success. And I’m very happy that there’s a new production every year,” he said.

Shen Yun’s use of the patented digital backdrop allows the dancers to appear on and off the screen in the blink of an eye—the characters portrayed are able to travel deep into the sea to greet the dragon king or meet the lady of the moon with ease.

“What I really liked was the marriage between what was happening on screen and on stage, with something fabulous, really fabulous, that I’ve never seen,” said Mr. Colomb.

Mr. Collomb expressed that everyone should go see Shen Yun with an open heart.

“Go and see it with a child’s heart. Your eyes need to speak directly to your heart and you'll come out transformed,” he said.
