Police transcripts show that a Maine couple charged with killing their 10-year-old daughter abused her for months before finally inflicting fatal injuries.
Police records indicate that the Carillos began torturing Marissa sometime in October. Allegedly they beat her, then locked her in a closet, day after day.
Both parents said after one abuse session on Feb. 23 or 24, Marissa was unable to walk and her speech was slurred. The parents considered calling a doctor but decided Marissa was faking and punished her more.
On Feb. 25, Julio Carillo called 911. When paramedics arrived they found the girl dead.
Julio Carillo told police he had found his stepdaughter on the floor, bleeding and had brought her upstairs. He then called 911, he claimed.
According to the affidavit, each of the Carillos implicated the other afraid that the other would put all the blame on him or her.
Two infant children, aged 1 and 2 years, also lived in the condominium where the alleged murder was committed. The Maine Department of Health and Human Services has taken the children into custody.
The Carillos are being held in the Waldo County Jail in Belfast, Maine.
