A McDonald’s employee from Normal, Illinois, has been fired for disrespecting a police officer who pulled up to the drive-in window to buy a meal.
When the employee saw that the car pulling up to the drive-through window was a police car driven by a state trooper, the employee repeated a once-popular and very vile anti-law-enforcement phrase several times.
People of a certain age would know the phrase made popular by the rap group Niggaz Wit Attitudes in its 1988 “Straight Outta Compton” album.
In any case, it is not a phrase that any McDonald’s employee should ever use on the job—and the co-owners of this McDonald’s restaurant fired the employee as soon as they heard.
“Of course we can’t control the thoughts or feelings of our employees, but we can definitely control the experiences that our customers have, and for a customer to have the experience that she says she did, is absolutely unacceptable.”
Multiple Offenses
This is the second time in less than a week that employees at McDonald’s have disrespected law enforcement officials. When the employee saw Lancaster’s uniform, the employee refused to give Lancaster his meal. Another employee saw the scene and gave the officer his meal, explaining that the first worker refused to serve police officers.
Lancaster shared his experience on his Facebook page with thousands sharing his post.
The same Palm Bay McDonald’s in which the incident occurred had in the past hosted a “Coffee With a Cop” community outreach event, to bring local residents and police officers together in a comfortable environment where they could share concerns.
