Authorities said the man who shot himself outside the White House on Saturday, March 3, was a 26-year-old from Alabama.
Cameron Ross Burgess of Maylee killed himself outside the White House North Lawn.
Maylene is a small community in Shelby County, Alabama.
Burgess also lived in Birmingham before. It’s not clear what his job was or when he arrived in the nation’s capital. Alabama records indicate that Burgess had no criminal history apart from a speeding ticket from 2010.
Burgess then fired several rounds, killing himself. None of the shots appear to have been directed towards the White House.
No other injuries were reported at the scene, although video footage showed people nearby fleeing after hearing the shots.
Philipos Melaku-Bello said he was standing nearby when the shots were fired.
“Guns again!” Melaku-Bello heard someone shout. “Guns again!”
A vehicle nearby belonging to Burgess was searched and multiple items were taken from the car by Secret Service personnel.
The remains of Burgess were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
The Secret Service said that no member of the First Family was at the White House during the incident.
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were in Florida at Mar-a-Lago during the incident.
