In 2013, Mark Zuckerberg purchased the four homes surrounding his own in Palo Alto, worth $30 million in total, for privacy purposes.
New city planning papers show that Zuckerberg plans to demolish those four homes and replace them with smaller, low-profile houses.
When Zuckerberg purchased his current home in 2011, a developer announced that he would purchase the land next to Zuckerberg’s home and market the house to anyone who wanted to live next to the Facebook billionaire.
This prompted Zuckerberg to purchase the houses adjacent to his own.
Still, his neighbors are concerned about the replacements he has in mind.
“Is he just developing it or is he creating some sort of compound which will have a constant turnover of visitors and employees?” Crescent Park resident Norm Beamer said to The Mercury News. “It’s a question of whether it’s a normal residential development or some unusual use that might create traffic and security issues and so forth.”
His neighbors will probably be irked regardless, as the construction and renovation is bound to produce noise pollution, as it did when Zuckerberg renovated his Dolores Park home in San Francisco a few years ago.
