The family who took in accused Florida shooter Nikolas Cruz and his brother last year after their mom died wants full control of his will.
Both boys were placed in the care of Roxanne Deschamps, after their mom, Lynda Cruz died from pneumonia on Nov. 1, 2017.
Cruz was set to receive the large inheritance starting on his 22nd birthday.
After the massacre, Roxanne also sent the shooter’s younger brother to a mental health facility.
Her court filings indicate she wanted Lynda’s estate, where she would be settling Lynda’s debts and doling out the kids’ inheritance, according to The Post.
At one point in time, Roxanna kicked Cruz out of her trailer located in Lantana, Florida, after a dispute over his gun collection. A source told The Post she even took $2,900 from Cruz before kicking him out.
The office filed a motion on Tuesday, Feb. 20, asking the court to determine whether Cruz is eligible for a taxpayer-funded defense. If the court does conclude that Cruz can pay for his own defense, he will have to hire a private attorney.
Lynda did not leave any will. It’s unclear what her real estate is worth, according to records.
Cruz believed Roxanna was trying to steal his inheritance, The Post Reported.
The teenager is charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder over the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
