A woman in Australia has died after being run over by her own vehicle in the driveway of her suburban home during an attempted carjacking that turned into an hourslong manhunt.

It was reported by 9NEWS that Marija Karovska, 51, was struck by the car on the morning of Friday, Feb. 23, as she tried to stop the man who was trying to steal it.

Alerted by the woman’s screams, her son ran out of the family’s home in Cedar Court in Mirrabooka, Perth, only to find his mother badly injured.

She was transported to a hospital, and both paramedics and doctors tried to revive her, but it is reported that she had later succumbed to her wounds.

The suspect allegedly left the vehicle near the home and fled on foot.

“Shocking to think that it happened to her, something like that, you know? Sad, it’s really sad,” a neighbor told 9NEWS reporters.

A manhunt for the suspect ended with his arrest in the front yard of a home about 10 km (about 6 miles) away.

At the time of reporting, parts of the street remained cordoned off, with police apparently searching for evidence.

It is unknown what charges the suspect will likely face, but at reporting, none had yet been filed.
