New York Subway Has a New Voice
The male voice that has been doing subway announcements in New York is about to change.
Life-long New Yorker Velina Mitchell is the new announcer for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), and commuters will soon be hearing her greet, inform, and–if need be–warn.
Mitchell has been with the MTA for 25 years and is a supervisor at the rail control center. Her voice caught the attention of NYC Transit Chief Customer Officer Sarah Myer, who was on the lookout for a voice that New Yorkers would recognize as one of their own.
“It was so kind and authoritative at the same time and made me listen in a new way,” says Myer in the video.
