Vice President Dick Cheney was admitted to George Washington Hospital in the nation’s capital on Monday after experiencing chest pains, said a personal aide in a statement to the press.

The aide, Peter Long, said the vice president is resting comfortably after a series of tests from his doctors. Vice President Cheney has had a history of heart problems, experiencing four heart attacks and the placement of a pacemaker soon after his first year in the vice presidential office.

Cheney has been extremely outspoken since leaving office, critical of the Obama administration in its handling of Iraq, Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay, and the “War on Terror.”
