A homeless man has been arrested and charged on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl as she was walking home from school in Burbank, police said.

Officers were dispatched around 3:45 p.m. on April 19 to a possible assault in the area of Victory Boulevard and Alameda Avenue.

The girl reported that a man approached her, made sexually inappropriate comments to her, and grabbed her under her shorts.

The man, identified as Tyrone Del Mar, 42, was arrested a short distance away after the girl gave police a description and told them where she had seen him last, according to police.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Mr. Del Mar with one felony count of lewd acts on a child under 14 and a misdemeanor count of child annoying. He remains in custody on $100,000 bail.

The incident remains under investigation.

Police urged anyone with more information to call the Burbank Police Department’s Domestic and Family Crimes Unit at 818-238-3210.
