Lindsey Pisarcik and her husband Ben were married in Pennsylvania in July 2016, and less than a week later, they moved to Alaska due to Ben’s work in the military.

Lindsey shared their story in an article she submitted to lovewhatmatters.com.

“It wasn’t long before we started talking about starting a family of our own,” Lindsey said. “In February 2017 we found out I was pregnant! We were beyond excited to welcome our first child.”

But then came a terrible blow.

“Unfortunately on April 5, at about nine weeks pregnant, I had a miscarriage and we lost the baby,” Lindsey continued.

Making the situation even more gut-wrenching, Ben would soon be leaving on deployment to Afghanistan, and the two would be separated.

“Knowing he would be gone a lot for pre-deployment training between April and when he left in September, we didn’t think it was likely I would get pregnant again before he left, and figured we’d have to wait another year to even start trying for a baby again,” Lindsey explained.

“We were completely devastated.”

While the two were saddened by their temporary upcoming separation, they decided to have a photoshoot to remember the early days of their marriage. It was around this time that Lindsey made a shocking discovery.

“Three days before the photo shoot, I decided to test again, expecting another negative test,” Lindsey said. “To my surprise, it was positive!”

“I was pregnant!”

Armed with this knowledge, Lindsey decided she wanted to do something special for the reveal.

“I immediately emailed the photographer and we talked about how we would surprise Ben at the photo shoot,” Lindsey went on. “It felt like the longest three days of my life, keeping the secret from him, but I knew it would be worth it!”

When the moment came, Ben did not hold back his shock, surprise and happiness.

Reveling in the wonderful news, the couple couldn’t help but remember their upcoming separation.

“As excited as we were, the reality of me being pregnant and Ben leaving in two weeks set in,” Lindsey said. “We decided it would be best if I moved home to Pittsburgh to be surrounded by family during the deployment instead of staying in Alaska by myself.”

In the time since, Ben has been keeping up with his wife’s progress through phone and Facetime calls. The two have learned that the child Lindsey is carrying is a girl.

“[I’m] now almost six months pregnant, [and] Ben is planning on coming home early from the deployment for the birth, (as long as our little girl decides to wait for him)!” Lindsey said.
