A small act of kindness is all that matters in a society filled with so much negativity. Sometimes small gestures come from the people we love most while other times it takes the least expected person to show us that there is still a little bit of humanity left in the world. In some instances, a good Samaritan shows up while we are in a fix far away from home. This time, it happened in Portland.

A young woman from Bangor, Maine, named Taylor Ronan took to social media to recognize the greatest act of kindness that she has ever received from a police officer.

This is after everything seemed to be going wrong, and her chances of sleeping out were increasing every passing minute.

Thankful for blue eyes ✨

Taylor had driven to Portland to pick her sister at the train station. However, the train was delayed, and that is when she decided to kill some time at Old Orchard Beach. After about 15 minutes, her sister called to inform her that the train had developed some mechanical problems, and she would not make it to the train station that night.

Therefore, the young woman left the beach and decided to get some food, but she had to pass by her car to get some money.

However, she realized that her wallet had been stolen from the car’s center console while she was away on the beach.

The night was not getting any better since her vehicle did not have enough gas to take her home.

With her wallet gone, she did not have any food, and there was no way she would have made it back home with only a quarter tank of gas left. Therefore, she decided to call the Old Orchard Beach PD, and they sure did not disappoint her. Sergeant Gerard Hamilton, a police officer from the precinct, arrived just in time to help her.

In her post, she says that the police officer greeted her with kindness and a smile that warmed her heart. She went ahead to explain her predicament to the police officer who promised to recover her wallet and immediately began searching around the beach and all houses nearby. However, his efforts did not bear any fruit.

“Then, the most amazing thing happened,” she wrote.

What Sergeant Hamilton did after this will remain special to Ronan for the rest of her life. His tone changed to that of a serious father and asked her how much gas was left to get her back home. Ronan responded saying she only had a quarter tank left but she could make it back home in one way or another. This is when Mr. Hamilton stepped up and insisted on filling Ronan’s tank even after her effort to turn down his offer. Therefore, they drove together to the local gas station, and he filled her gas. “He even pumped it!” Ronan added.

In an interview, Sergeant Hamilton, who is a father of three, said he would have done for the same for anyone in the same situation. He continued to say that he would not have imagined a situation where his children were stranded on the side of the road after running out of gas. Therefore, he did what he had to do to help Ronan.

In her Facebook post, Ronan said that she was blessed to meet the most amazing police officer. She went ahead to thank Mr. Hamilton for his reminder that a little kindness goes a long way. Ronan also added that her family was planning to mail the Sergeant a “thank you” gift and a check to pay him for the gas.

“I had to share this story because it really touched my heart and showed me a little kindness goes a long way,” she wrote.

Such touching stories remind us that we are all human. And regardless of your job or position, we can all help each other out.
