When a family discovers a hummingbird in the grass, the mother tells her son to “look but don’t touch.” The bird chirps and flaps around but can’t lift up off the ground causing the boy to ask “is it stuck?”
The answer is “yes.” Somebody left gum in the grass and the bird ended up stuck there. One of the parents looked to resolve the issue, carefully brushing away the grass and picking up the bird. Once he was in-hand, they carefully removed the gum from its wings.
As he’s being cleaned, the bird makes no noise.
“He doesn’t say anything,” the boy says.
“Are you okay, little dude?” the dad asks.
Fortunately, the bird is. It gets up and flies off.
That day the family learned a valuable lesson: throw your gum in the trash, not in the grass.
