The U.K. has paid over 1 million pounds (US$1.6 million) in an out of court settlement to a group of men detained in Guantanamo Bay to stop their legal suit against U.K. intelligence agencies and ministers, according to BBC.

The around a dozen men say that British personnel were complicit in their torture while they were held in the prison as terrorist suspects.

U.K. officials say that continuing the case would require the declassification of documents that would endanger national security. The Telegraph reports that the cost of the court case would likely have been in the tens of millions of pounds.
