At least one person was reportedly killed Thursday by a tornado in Kemper County, Mississippi, near the border with Alabama.
The National Weather Service said that the tornado touched down in Kemper County near Bluff Point, causing damage.
The Weather Channel said that one person was killed and one was injured in a tornado in Kemper County. It described the tornado as “large, violent, extremely dangerous.”
Video footage appeared to show the twister moving across Highway 61 near the town of DeKalb, Miss., according to USA Today.
National Weather Service meteorologist David Cox said that radar showed the twister touching down near Highway 493, reported the Kemper County Messenger.
“Yes, we had a tornado. Yes, we have injuries. Yes, we have everything down – trees, houses, whatever – but we’re trying to deal with the injuries. Thank you,” a woman at the Kemper County dispatch told the Jackson Clarion-Ledger.
And in nearby Noxubee County, a “violent and extremely dangerous tornado was spotted near the city of Macon,” reported CNN, citing the weather agency.
Power outages have been reported in Macon and there are reports of damaged homes and businesses, said Macon City Clerk Beverly Shelton.
