Teen hit by softball dies: A teen near San Diego died after he was hit in the chest with a softball during his high school physical education class, officials said.

Taylor Dorman was hit while he was playing the game “Over the Line” in the P.E. class at Ramona High School , friends told CBS San Diego. Witnesses said that he appeared to be awake and was talking after he was hit.

Other students said that he continued to play and even made a joke.

However, witnesses said that around 20 minutes later, he collapsed.

Bob Graeff, the school superintendent, said that officials called 911. Paramedics arrived quickly and stabilized Dorman before he was sent to the hospital.

“There was a line drive hit off the bat of another student,” Ramona High Principal Tony Newman told the Ramona Sentinel, adding that the hit “caused complications” and later, “the student collapsed.”

“He was a great young man,” Newman said, referring to of Taylor, who was a sophomore.

Newman added, “He was very well-liked by many on campus. This will have an impact on students and staff. We will remember some good memories and keep them alive in our hearts and our thoughts and our conversations.”

The county medical examiner’s office will now have to see how he officially died, reported NBC News. They will determine whether Dorman had prior medical conditions that played a role in his death.
