Sienna Miller Explains Her Decision to Quit Social Media
Sienna Miller says she has abandoned social media, despite only having posted once to Instagram.
The actress says she was persuaded to join the photo sharing site in 2017 by friends but since regretted the decision.
She told Harper’s Bazaar magazine, “Everybody said you should be on it, ‘the world’s changing and you’re a dinosaur’, which got insulting.”
Explaining why she has now decided to quit social media, Miller said, “I’m not really good at not being incredibly open and authentic and don’t want be that in front of a bunch of people I don’t know. At the same time, I didn’t want to be inauthentic either, so it was a double-edged sword.”
Her only post to Instagram from June 2017 read, “Hello World Wide Web. #givenin #peerpressure #luddite 🙃” alongside a picture of the actress with the word “greetings” written on her hands.
Despite her lack of activity the actress has over 225,000 followers.
She said she finds the site a “time waster”, saying, “I deleted the app because every time I’d go for a pee or get in a cab, I’d check it. There’s a whole world going on out there that I’m not engaging with because I’m mindlessly thumbing through it.”
