Las Vegas police are investigating a shooting involving one of their officers at a shopping center in South Valley on the afternoon of Aug. 11.

The shooting occurred at the Ross Dress for Less store in the Blue Diamond Crossing shopping center on Block 4000 of Blue Diamond Road, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported.

There were road closures owing to police activity in the area around Orville Street and Valley View to the north of Blue Diamond Road, according to a Twitter post from the Regional Transportation Commission.

One Twitter user posted: “Active shooter a few minutes ago here off blue diamond in Las Vegas at Target and Ross. I was in store when it happen. Crazy.”

Witnesses said that a male security guard, a female store manager and another man had been arguing. The security guard then left the store and came back with a gun, which he then fired at the store manager but missed, Captain Nichole Splinter with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told local media.

Two police officers arrived on the scene after being notified of the shooter, who then opened fired on them. One officer returned fire and hit the shooter once. The shooter has since been hospitalized and underwent surgery on the night of Aug. 11, Splinter said.

This is the fifth shooting in the past week involving a Metro police officer.

The Blue Diamond Shopping Center continue to be sealed off on the night of Aug. 11 as police continue their investigation.
