LODZ, Poland—An email from a colleague led a doctor to travel a long distance to see the Shen Yun Performing Arts show for the first time in Lodz. Dr. Barycki, a neurologist, has loved Chinese culture since a professional trip to China 10 years ago.

“I visited Beijing, Shanghai, because I worked at that time in the institute of agricultural medicine. In Shanghai we had a meeting about agricultural medicine. Since then I´m tightly connected to the Chinese culture.”

Dr. Barycki loved the show, saying, “It was very impressive. I’m very interested in Chinese culture and Chinese science, medicine. I´m a medical doctor, so for me it’s a beautiful performance. I think that dancing is a new art for European people, but I think that there are some common things, which join China’s culture with the European [culture], or Christian culture even. So it’s very interesting for us European and Polish people.”

He found the orchestral music new and innovative. The vocal solos seemed more like classical singing to him, not unusually innovative or experimental. He said the dances “are very interesting for us, because it’s so different from our culture, that we can admire so many new elements in this dance. I think that the songs that we heard today are very traditional, so for us it’s very interesting.”

Also at the Shen Yun performance was Mr. Zareba, president of a company that lets space for containers. He had a soulful reaction to the show, saying, “It’s very hard to point out a single element of the show, because I think that the overall vision is very beautiful and the overall feelings are very important. I think that the ability to feel what the artists feel is the greatest quality which I gain from this.”
