TAIPEI - The 1,500-year-old Songshan Shaolin Temple in Henan Province and the Shenzhen Television Station have jointly initiated a program called, “Searching for the Star of Chinese Kung Fu.” After worldwide competitions, 108 brave men will be selected during the final rounds to appear in, “Legend of the Shaolin Temple monks,” a new television show.

According to a report by The Beijing Morning Post, there are 11 competition sites worldwide, consisting 6 main sites and 5 secondary ones, for “Searching for the Star of Chinese Kung Fu.” The six main sites are located in China, which are Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Shenyang, Zhengzhou and Shenzhen cities. Shenzhen is also the concentration center for all the secondary competition sites in the world.

The secondary competition sites of the five continents are the United States in North America, Germany in Europe, Australia in Oceania, Korea and Thailand in Asia, and Egypt in Africa.

The Henan Songshan Shaolin Temple said that the purpose of this activity is to admire the virtue of others and to make friends through martial arts. There is no contestant limitation regarding nationality, color or school. Anyone who practices kung fu can participate. All contestants must be male and no monks of the Shaolin Temple shall be allowed to participate.

A most special event is the “Beauty Pass.” It is in addition to the martial arts competition. The test is based on the visual examination of the opposite sex..The contestants with the higher scores proceed to the next round.

The martial arts activities are planned in three stages, from March 16, 2006 through August 15, 2006.
