Seatbelt Campaign Aims to Save Lives, Especially at Night

For the next two weeks, law enforcement agencies across the country will be buckling down on buckling up.

The “Click It or Ticket“ annual campaign, encouraging every passenger to wear a seat belt when riding in motor vehicles, kicked off on May 23.

“It’s a simple idea that every driver and passenger should keep in mind: buckle up, every time,” said United States Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. “Putting on your seat belt is one of the easiest and safest choices you can make.”

Forty-nine percent of occupants in passenger vehicles who were killed in accidents during 2014 were not wearing seat belts, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in a May 12 press release
