The search continues for a 28-year-old hiker who has been missing since Aug. 1.
Her boyfriend, Kevin Dares, searched for Sayers in the dark before alerting rangers. Dares’s sister told The Seattle Times that he again went to look for her in the dark, and again found no one.
Dares and his sister then spent $5,000 on a plan to bring her back. They’ve been spreading 150 one-gallon plastic bags with survival items throughout the area.
Each bag contains Clif bars, a poncho, socks, a compass, a flashlight, fire sticks, and a lighter, according to The Seattle Times.
Also in each bag is the note, “Lost person Sam Sayers. Tear off corner of this note and leave in bag so we can track you! Stay strong! We love you and everyone is looking for you.”
The search effort involves 50 volunteers that work with various search and rescue groups, three teams with trained dogs, and a helicopter rescue team.
“It is a massive area that they need to cover,“ her mother wrote. ”We are confident in the people running the rescue. They gave us a briefing and showed us a detailed map of where they are searching. They are very deliberate in their efforts. They have so many volunteers, canines units, helicopters. They are uncovering every stone.”
