SAN DIEGO—The Divine Performing Arts (DPA) 2009 World Tour appealed to an international audience at San Diego’s Civic Theater on the first night of its presentation, Dec. 26.

Kate, who was born in China, now lives in San Diego where she studies political science at UC Berkeley. She was at the show with her brother, Kevin, and though she had seen Chinese performances back home in China and in the United States, said the DPA presentation was “definitely” one the best she had seen.

“I love the colors, the variety of the dances, the costumes all very beautiful and colorful. I like that there is a live orchestra and the integration of voice performance along with traditional dance, and, also scenes of contemporary China,” she said.

Kate has an interest in human rights and public policy. She thought the contemporary scenes of human rights abuses in China was an important part of the show’s message.

Hailing from Cairo, Egypt, Rami El Arawy said he liked “the beginning, the end and the middle” of the evening’s show.

“I loved it. Beautiful, beautiful. The spirit and the amount of effort and precision was great,” he said.

When asked what he thought of the Falun Dafa scenes, he said he had never heard of the spiritual practice before, “but it’s obvious they’re doing something right.”

In one act, Persecuted on a Sacred Path, the oppression of spiritual practice Falun Dafa in China was focused upon. Since July 20, 1999, the Falun Gong practitioners have been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. Thousands have been incarcerated, many tortured to death, and others killed for their body parts used in transplantation.

German-born Igor von Wurttemburg, a businessman in San Diego, also liked the show very much. “It is very colorful. The music is very soothing, yet the energy tremendous. Very uplifting, wonderful energy. The show brings a message of hope and a connection of consciousness.”
