Russia’s Psychic Cat ‘Achilles’ Picks Winner of World Cup Opener
Russia’s psychic cat, Achilles, has been tasked with predicting the winner for the opening match at the 2018 Russia World Cup that kicks-off on Wednesday.
The snow-white cat was presented to international media at the St. Petersburg World Cup press centre.
Achilles lives at St Petersburg’s Hermitage Museum and is touted to have psychic powers.
Watch as he predicts the winner of Thursday’s opening match.
Two plates of food placed between the Russian and Saudi Arabian flags were used to draw Achilles toward making his inspired prediction.
After some waiting and then prodding, Achilles finally twitched his nose away from the Saudi plate and feasted momentarily on the cat food next to the Russian flag.
Achilles, who is a congenitally deaf cat, successfully predicted match winners during the 2017 Confederations Cup. All eyes are now on his prediction for year’s World Cup tournament victors.
Hosts Russia are set to face Saudi Arabia at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium on Wednesday, June 14, at 6 p.m. local time—4 p.m. in the UK, 11 a.m. in New York, 1 a.m. June 15 on the East Coast of Australia.
