Denmark’s Crown Princess Mary is expecting twins, according to a statement made by the Danish royal court on Friday.

After weeks of media speculation, the palace announced that the 38-year-old princess is pregnant and due in January. She is expected to give birth at the national hospital, Rigshospitalet, in Copenhagen.

Princess Mary and her husband Crown Prince Frederik already have two children, Prince Christian (4) and Princess Isabella (3). The twins will be fourth and fifth in line to the throne after their father and older siblings.

Originally from Hobart, Princess Mary met Crown Prince Frederik at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney where she was working as sales director for a real estate agency. The couple married in 2004.

The babies will be the first twins born into the Danish line of succession for 350 years.
