Police in California thwarted a school shooting plot aimed at a high school near Whittier.
Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office said that a security officer overheard a “disgruntled student” threaten a school shooting.
The officer alerted police, who quickly launched an investigation.
Officers went to the student’s home and discovered a collection of weapons and ballistic evidence, reported ABC7.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole Nishida told The Associated Press that deputies found “multiple guns and ammunition.”
The student made the threat against El Camino High School near Whittier.
Robert Jacobsen, general counsel for Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District, told the Whittier Daily News that the student didn’t have a weapon on him or at school.
The threat came after a teacher told the student not to have electronic devices out during class time after the student brought headphones into class and left them out.
“It was a threat to come back and bring a gun,” Jacobsen said.
It wasn’t clear whether the student was arrested.
Authorities planned to give an update on Wednesday.
