Police have released images of a man who allegedly assaulted a 12-year-old girl on a busy train in Sydney, Australia, in a bid to find him.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, is accused of indecently assaulting the girl on New Year’s Day, according to a police statement released on March 14.

Police said the girl and her family boarded a train at Central station headed for western Sydney and sat next to a man. During the trip, the man tried to start a conversation with the girl and then allegedly assaulted her when her parents were not looking.

The girl told police that the man glared at her for the rest of the trip until he got off at Granville station, reported 9News.

The 12-year-old and her family then got off the train two stops later and alerted police.

Police said they have been looking for the man for two months and they hope that by releasing the image, they will be able to obtain more information about the incident.

“Sooner or later, we will identify who he is and he would be in a much better position to come forward and talk to us about what occurred,” Detective Chief Inspector Brad Monk told 9News.

“This is very concerning and we have very grave concerns that this man will reoffend,” he added.

The man is described to be of an Indian sub-continental appearance and aged between 30 to 40. He is depicted to be clean-shaven with acne on his face, and was wearing a long-sleeved lilac shirt with white pants when he allegedly assaulted the girl.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/.
