GOLD COAST, Australia—Queensland police have said they are investigating allegations that an athlete at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games was sexually assaulted.

Mauritius media reported that one of their athletes had been assaulted by an official from the nation’s delegation to the April 4-15 Games.

The Mauritius Athletic Association was unable to provide immediate comment.

“We’re aware that there are allegations of sexual assault by one of the members of the Commonwealth teams,” Queensland police commissioner Ian Stewart said on Wednesday.

Queensland Police Service (QPS) said in a statement it had, “received a complaint in relation to allegations of an assault involving an international Commonwealth Games delegate.

“Police are investigating the matter. As this is an ongoing investigation it is inappropriate to provide further comment at this stage.”

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) said it was aware of the allegations.

“However, there has been no reporting to the CGF through the established village processes,” the federation said in a statement published by British media.
