A pit bull attacked a grandmother in the Bronx, New York, on March 28.
The pit bull didn’t relent until its 23-year-old owner, Shannon Ingram, arrived and helped pry the dog away, ABC 7 reported.
Delia Rojas, 12-years-old, saw the attack.
“The little girl, she was yelling and then it got my attention and then I saw the pit bull,” she told Pix 11. “It was really bad.”
Ingram was arrested. Police charged her with two counts of reckless endangerment. Her dog was taken away by animal control. Pix 11 does not know why the dog was off its leash and what led to the attack.
“It’s more than just pit bulls. Any dog has teeth, you know, even chihuahuas,“ neighbor Charlesse Brown told Pix 11. ”Some Chihuahuas are more feisty than pit bulls. So it’s all up to the owner to protect yourself, and your surroundings.”
“We are saddened to hear of this incident and will be looking into this immediately,” NYCHA said in a statement, via ABC 7. “While our policy welcomes residents to have pets as part of their family, there are restrictions in our policy and we expect pets to not endanger fellow residents.”
NYCHA has policies prohibiting certain dog species, such as Doberman pinschers, pit bulls, and Rottweilers. There are also areas of housing complexes the dogs are prohibited from entering, like playgrounds, and they must be kept on a leash in public areas, according to ABC 7.
