Juicy new details—and character photos—of the eighth Harry Potter story have been released.
On May 31, ahead of the stage production’s preview on June 7, Pottermore has unveiled character portraits of Harry Potter, his wife Ginny Potter (nee Weasley), and their son Albus Severus Potter.
“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,"a theatrical production in two parts, is a collaboration between Jack Thorne, John Tiffany, and, of course, J.K. Rowling.
Premiering on July 30 at the Palace Theatre London, it will be the first official stage production of a Harry Potter tale.
Set nearly two decades after the events of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” the play depicts Harry “as an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.”
The now middle-aged Harry will be played by Jamie Parker, of whom J.K. Rowling said: “He simply is Harry now. There’s a kind of relief in watching him, he gets it so right.”
Ginny Potter will be played by Poppy Miller, whose TV and film work has includes parts in “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll” and “The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.” On stage, Miller has appeared in productions of “Macbeth” and “Twelfth Night.”
“I think a lot of people would like to have Poppy’s Ginny for a mother,” noted Rowling. “Kind and cool, exactly as I imagined her.”
Sam Clemmett, whose resume includes productions of “Lord of the Flies” and “Wendy and Peter Pan,” takes on the role of the Harry and Ginny’s youngest son, Albus, who “must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted.”
Pottermore plans to debut more character portraits through the run-up to the June 7 preview.
