Comedian Peter Kay has been forced to cancel all his upcoming work projects, including his upcoming stand-up tour because of “unforeseen family circumstances.”
“This decision has not been taken lightly and I’m sure you'll understand my family must always come first,” he said in a statement posted on Twitter.
He added, “I’ve always endeavoured to protect my family’s privacy from the media. I hope that the media and the public will continue to respect our privacy at this time.”
His next tour was set to begin in 2019, starting in Birmingham, and included 112 dates across the UK and Ireland.
The cancellation comes after he added extra dates to his tour due to public demand.
The star performed to more than 1.1 million people in his 2010 to 2011 comedy tour “The Tour That Didn’t Tour” making him the record-holder for the biggest-selling comedy tour of all time.
“I never imagined that one day I'd be included in the Guinness World Records, just goes to show that the lovely Roy Castle was right, dedication is exactly what you need if you want to be a record breaker.”
He said that anyone who has bought tickets for Peter Kay’s Live Arena Tour and Dance for Life shows will be refunded.
Fans poured out their support and sympathy for the star, while some were angry at the cancellation.
