Claiming that they don’t have the budget, NYPD wants to cut down on the size and scope of parades in the city.

On Tuesday officials said that parade organizers would need to cut down parade routes by 25 percent while the time of the parade must be kept under five hours.

The department said that the cutbacks would save them $3.1 million per year. The new regulations will start on April 1. New York City frequently holds parades throughout the year—ranging from massive parades like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to parades celebrating various ethnic groups.

The New York Police Department added that they did not want to cut any more necessary services, citing the city’s budget shortfall.
