O.J. Simpson has been out of prison for two weeks, and he’s already signing autographs for money.
TMZ reported Friday that he signed Buffalo Bills helmets and charged at least $400 for it. The signing occurred in Las Vegas, where he’s been staying since he was released from prison after nine years for armed robbery.
A dealer, New York’s Steiner Sports, posted prices on autographed Simpson helmets, charging $400 for just the autograph and $450 for one with a “HOF ‘85” inscription, it was reported.
“Collectors collect, and O.J. Simpson is a part of sports history for his accomplishments on the field,” said Steiner Sports CEO Brandon Steiner, ABC News reported. “He’s a Heisman Trophy winner, 10,000-plus-yard rusher and a Hall of Famer. We are just trying to answer the demand of our customers looking to complete their collections.”
Any money that he earns is slated to go to the families of Ronald Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson after a civil decision in 1997. He owes the families about $65 million, a Goldman family lawyer told The Associated Press after he was released from prison.
But his NFL pension, which added up to $435,000 while he was in prison, is protected.
