Tainan, Taiwan—The first “Chinese International Piano Competition,” sponsored by New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV) successfully concluded its Asia-Pacific Preliminaries on the evening of August 23 at the Ya-Yinh Building of National University of Tainan in Taiwan. At the preliminary awards ceremony, Mayor of Tainan City Hsu Tain-tsair, presented the awards and praised NTDTV for its efforts to promote music and art.

NTDTV’s Piano competition is the first of its kind. NTDTV had selected Taiwan to host the Asia-Pacific competition. Eighty one competitors from Taiwan, Australia, Chile and Germany entered the competition. Some contestants in Taiwan had learned of the competition from their peers in the United States. Many competitors said they were deeply impressed by the host’s good service.

The venue for the competition was the 110-year-old Tainan University, Tainan City, an old city with a concentration of cultural heritage. It matches closely with NTDTV’s mission, which is to  promote traditional classic music and arts.

After six hours of intense competition on the afternoon of August 22, twenty-eight competitors won their entries into the semi-finals to be held in New York City.
