A driver who refused to move over for a tow truck in Missouri nearly killed the tow truck driver.
The car ended up slamming into the tow truck while Danny Williams, the tow truck driver, was helping a stranded driver nearby.
Police cars and other tow trucks were blocking the area but one driver tried to sneak around and ended up slamming into a steel bed of one of the tow trucks, suffering minor injuries in the process.
Now Williams is taking the opportunity to tell people they should obey the law, which mandates drivers giving berth to tow trucks and emergency responders who are parked on or near the side of the road.
Violations of the law can result in a fine of $250 or more.
Williams often fears for his life while he’s doing his job.
When a broadcasting team from Fox followed a tow truck out for a call, they counted at least 50 vehicles breaking the law when the tow truck showed up to help a stranded driver.
Facebook users said it was a shame that the driver didn’t obey the law.
“If we all acted like our loved ones where in the other cars people would be a lot more courteous on the roads. It’s a law to move over for emergency vehicle no matter which kind!!!” said one user.
“Failing to move over a lane killed my step daughter. Driver veered onto the shoulder and killed her, leaving two orphaned kids. Driver got tickets,” shared another.
Said another, “Move over if you can, if you can’t, then SLOW down. Do not slam on the brakes and stop. I actually had somebody do this to me. This law is a little confusing for some.”
