An Australian teen who was reported missing on Sept. 18 has been found after revealing her whereabouts on Facebook.
As Queensland police sought the public’s help in locating 17-year-old Erian Thompson on social media, Thompson solved her own case by responding to the post with her current location—her bedroom.
“Guys I’m fine I’m not missing this is an overreaction to a fight I had with my sister, I’m legit just sitting in my bedroom,” she wrote.
As it could be anyone responding to the post, Queensland police asked that Thompson confirmed her identity by appearing at the police headquarters.
“I am glad that you’re safe, but we can’t take this down until you’ve been sighted by police and we’ve confirmed that you’re okay,” responded the department.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia the girl was found safe and and that the missing person post has since been taken down.
Last month, another Australian teen, Amy Sharp, 18, commented on her own “Wanted” photo on Facebook after she escaped from Surry Hills Corrective Services Cell Complex on Aug. 19.
While on the run, Sharp asked authorities to use a different photo of herself and offered a more appealing photo in the comments section. She was apparently unhappy with the police mugshot of her sporting a downtrodden facial expression that was circulating on social media.
“Can you use this photo, please and thank you. Yours Truly, Amy Sharp xx,” wrote Sharp from her own personal Facebook page on Aug. 25. She added a smiling photo of herself.
Sharp was later arrested in Wentworth Park by police just after midnight on Aug. 27. She was charged with escaping lawful custody as well as an outstanding warrant, and appeared at Parramatta court on Saturday, according to New South Wales police.
