A 19-year-old man from Western Australia was knocked out cold by a kangaroo while he went hunting with his brother on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
As Hayden was sticking his body out of the vehicle to take a shot at one of the kangaroos, another one came out of nowhere and charged at the moving car.
“It actually collided with the side of the car and smashed the front window,” Hayden told the news station.
“Then it bounced back onto me and headbutted me straight in the jaw,” he recalled.
The 19-year-old said he was knocked out for about 30 seconds after the collision before he regained consciousness.
“I woke up and my brother was trying to tell me what happened,” he told ABC.
Hayden recalled to the news station that he had accused his brother of hitting him but his brother quickly denied it. Hayden’s brother then told him that it was the kangaroo who laid the brutal punch.
Hayden was rushed to the hospital. He suffered a broken jaw and bruises on his face.
He was told to wait 10 days before surgery as his face was too swollen to operate on, reported the news station.
Hayden and his brother said they frequently hunt kangaroos for food but that the kangaroos normally don’t fight back.
“Out of all the times we have been out bush I have never heard of this before,” he told the ABC.
“The kangaroos are going crazy these days. As soon as they see a car they hop right up to it and give it right back,” he added.
