A longtime nursing supervisor was killed by a disgruntled worker at UAB Highlands in Georgia.

Nancy Swift, 63, was shot dead at the medical facility late Wednesday, March 14.

Sources told AL.com that Swift was reprimanding an employee, who then got out his gun and shot Swift dead.

The worker was identified as Trevis Devon Coleman, 31, who worked in the central sterile supply field.

Coleman then shot Tim Isley, a 28-year-old instrument management supervisor, before shooting himself.

Swift was rushed to the UAB Highlands ER, where doctors tried to save her life but failed. She was pronounced dead at 9 p.m.

Isley was rushed to main UAB Hospital where he quickly underwent surgery and is now in critical condition but stable. Isley works for STERIS IMS, a medical instrument repair and sterile processing consulting and management service based in Birmingham, the company confirmed to CBS 42.

Coleman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Our training for an active shooter is we don’t wait,'' said Birmingham police Lt. Pete Williston. ”If we can go in as a team, that’s how we prefer to do it, but the officers that arrived on the scene did not hesitate. They immediately responded to the active threat that was perceived.”

Authorities said there are metal detectors at UAB Highlands and confirmed they were in use on Wednesday.

“We have extensive security measures in place that include police officers on site 24-7 as well as others that we do not publicly disclose in the interest of safety,” Anthony Patterson, the UAB Hospital vice president, said.

UAB Highlands is one of the campuses of UAB Hospital, which is part of the medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

A family member of Isley’s told CBS that he wanted to spread the message that forgiveness is key.

“What Tim would tell you to say if he could speak right now, is that Jesus Christ is Lord, forgiveness trumps all, serve others, love others, and treat others as you would want them to treat you and with genuine Christ-like love. He would also give you a huge smile and hug,” the relative said.
