Jeff Bezos Has His Sights Set On The Moon
Amazon billionaire boss Jeff Bezos has revealed he has a vision of colonizing the moon.
Speaking to Geek Wire, Bezos said he wants his company Blue Origin to work with NASA and the ESA to create a permanent settlement on the Moon.
But if the wheels of bureaucracy turn too slowly, he isn’t prepared to wait around and will do whatever it takes, pushing forward with his company alone if needed, he says.
The moon is just two days travel away, notes Bezos, and has deposits of water ice near the poles that could be converted into drinkable water, breathable air, and propellants for refuelable rockets.
“It’s almost like somebody set this up for us,” Bezos told Geek Wire.
He believes that in the future, Earth will be zoned for residential and light industrial use, and heavy industry, powered by 24/7 solar power, will be moved off the planet.
“The Earth is not a very good place to do heavy industry. It’s convenient for us right now,” Bezos said. “But in the not-too-distant future—I’m talking decades, maybe 100 years—it’ll start to be easier to do a lot of the things that we currently do on Earth in space, because we’ll have so much energy.”
