Jaguar Love is the product of a marriage of members of defunct US cult acts Blood Brothers and Pretty Girls Make Graves. This guarantees the band both a ready made audience but also a hefty weight of expectation. Fronted by helium voiced Johnny Whitney, they wear both Blood Brothers screamo heritage and a keen ear for pop melodies firmly on their sleeves. Opener ‘Highways of Gold’ and ‘Vagabond Ballroom’ are particularly exciting, with ‘Vagabond Ballroom’ bringing to mind The Mars Volta in one of their least indulgent guises. Whitney’s voice may immediately mean some are put off but for the rest of us, this is a decent effort and a likely grower.
