Social sharing turned into a nightmare of cruelty for a 21-year-old woman in Uruguay, whose husband hit her for every “like” post she got on Facebook.

The woman’s reportedly furiously jealous partner, Pedro Heriberto Galeano, would fly into fits of rage whenever the photos Orhigoza posted of herself on Facebook received likes, said her lawyer.
But with time, Gelano’s behavior allegedly took a twisted turn. He started to physically assault his wife whenever her friends reacted to her posts. Then he took over her social media profile and himself started posting photos of Orhigoza. Any reaction to the posts would spark a brutal beating.
“Her mouth was all broken, she was very damaged, her skin was hanging off because of the blows,” said Arnaldo Martinez, the lawyer representing Ortigoza, according to the Daily Mail.
Martinez said the only thing that saved her teeth from being knocked out was the fact that her husband would stuff a rag into her mouth to keep her from screaming out loud.
“He would put a cloth in her mouth so that she would not scream during the brutal beatings that she suffered daily,” said the lawyer, reports Daily Mail.
Martinez spoke of the terror the woman told him she felt when her husband would post a new photo of her on Facebook, in anticipation of the flurry of punches and kicks that were sure to come.
“He controlled the victim’s social networking sites, he controlled the messages and photos, and for every ‘like’ she received from her friends, the woman received a beating because he accused her of having a relationship with them,” Martinez said.
The woman’s friends reportedly had no idea about the abuse she was suffering at the hands of her spouse.
Ortigoza was so disfigured from the abuse that she had to undergo reconstructive surgery of her nasal septum and lips.
Galeano was arrested and could face up to 30 years in prison on charges of attempted homicide, deprivation of liberty, and coercion.
