Grandpa Stabs Grandson After Argument Over Doughnut

A man stabbed his 12-year-old grandson after an argument over a doughnut.

A Missouri boy was about to head to school when his 67-year-old grandfather got upset and snapped during an argument involving doughnuts and an address. After getting stabbed, the boy went over to a neighbor’s house for help, clutching the bleeding stab wound on his arm. Neighbors said the arm was stabbed all the way through, Fox News reported.
According to Fox 4, neighbor Courtney Payne said the boy was asking “Why did my grandpa try to kill me?”
The boy told neighbors that he was joking around with his grandfather before the stabbing occurred, KSHB reported. Neighbors called 911 for him.

“I wasn’t sure what was going to happen. The whole time he’s sitting there like, ‘Am I going to lose my arm? What happened? Why did he do this? Why did grandpa do this to me?’” she added, in the Fox 4 interview.

Payne and her mother had never met the boy before. Neighbors said the neighborhood is usually very quiet.

“When he was hurt and scared, maternal instincts kicked in and I was like, ‘C’mon, I got you safe, you’re secure, you’re in a good spot,’” said Payne via KSHB.

Detective Joshua Wildman said in a statement for the court that the grandfather is responsible for taking the boy to school each morning, and that the boy’s father had already left for work when the incident occurred. He said detectives found a lunchbox lying on the floor near the refrigerator.

The document went on to say that the boy was interviewed after being taken to a hospital. A social worker conducted the interview and found out he was packing his lunch for the day when the grandfather called him a liar because of an address the boy gave him. After stabbing him all the way through the forearm the grandfather continued to chase the boy around the house.

Jose Ortega returned home at around 10:30 a.m. and was arrested without incident. He was charged with domestic assault and armed criminal action. The prosecution set bond at $50,000.

Police found a 10-inch blade with apparent blood, and blood smeared on the door.

Ortega told police he wasn’t trying to kill his grandson, but just trying to hurt him. When the boy didn’t give him a doughnut, he grabbed his neck, threw him on the ground, and stabbed him with a kitchen knife. He told police he snapped due to job stress, depression, and not getting psychiatric counseling.
