The German government on Wednesday issued a security warning saying it had received new, “concrete” evidence that a terrorist attack is being plotted against the country, according to German media.

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said at a press conference Wednesday in Berlin, that he is concerned there may be a terrorist attack at the end of this month, according to Der Spiegel.

Maiziere said security officials will increase patrols across Germany, especially at possible targets such as airports and train stations.

Germany has been aware of an abstract risk of attack for weeks. The risk first became known in July after U.S. military officials detained and questioned two German radicals. The radicals revealed plans by al-Quaeda to attack Europe.

Officials also said Wednesday that about 200 Islamists have traveled from Germany to terrorist training camps and at least 100 radicals now have returned to Germany, according to Der Spiegel.

On Wednesday morning well-armed patrols were at Berlin’s main train station and on the square at the Brandenburg Gate.
