An Oklahoma father who claimed that his daughter killed herself will face a murder trial, according to reports.
The 43-year-old is being held without bond on first-degree murder charges after his daughter, Kailee, 22, was found dead on June 29 in Norman.
The father is said to have called 911 to report that his daughter killed herself.
Officers pronounced her dead at the scene, determining that the shooting was suspicious.
He initially told officials that he had witnessed Kailee shoot herself while “playing with a wheel-gun,” with a revolver pointed to her face and her thumb on the trigger, a detective testified in the case. McMullen then said the gun went “pop” when he tried to take it from her, the detective said.
Police asked him about cleaning the blood, and the police, “I don’t know why I did that,” the report said.
He also allegedly moved the woman’s body from the kitchen to the living room following the shooting.
Police claimed that he was accused of abusing his daughter in 2009 but wasn’t charged. They also said he was a “very controlling father,” and his wife said he would track her phone, according to the CBS report.
The gun was shot 18 inches from the victim, police Detective Brian Franks told the judge.
“It tells me it was fired outside of her reach,” he said, People reported.
McMullen hasn’t yet entered a plea in the case.
“Kailee had a zest for life and a bubbly personality, was quick witted, and had a quirky sense of humor,” her obituary read. “Always the entertainer, she loved making people laugh and was famous for the elaborate costumes she would put together when the occasion arose.”
It says, “Kailee was a good and loyal friend, and all who knew her were better for it.”
She was working to become an EMT in Norman when she died.
