WASHINGTON, DC – Chinese President Hu Jintao was scheduled to arrive in Washington, DC, Tuesday, September 6, for his first visit to the United States since becoming President.

Falun Gong practitioners in Washington held a press conference outside the Chinese Embassy on September 1. Their appeal, displayed via banners, stating “Bring Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing, and Zhou Yongkang to Trial,” and “Bring to Trial the Vicious Policemen and All of Those Who Persecute Falun Gong Practitioners.”

Some of the cruel tortures suffered by Falun Gong practitioners in mainland China were displayed and reenacted to raise public awareness. In July of 1999, Jiang Zemin, then China's President, ordered a suppression of Falun Gong utilizing cruel and violent means on a large scale to force Falun Gong practitioners to give up their cultivation practice.

Jiang has been sued for genocide in many countries around the world, while Falun Gong practitioners continue to appeal for the criminal prosecution of Jiang and others directly involved in the persecution.

Mr. Liu Ningping, an Assistant Professor at a U.S. university, said, “Hu Jintao has been the president of China for two years, so he is responsible for the current persecution of Falun Gong. But given the political environment of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), he probably cannot help doing so.

“After all, when Jiang Zemin wanted to suppress Falun Gong, Hu initially opposed it, so we hope to give him an opportunity to do what's right. However, since anyone who does or promotes bad deeds must eventually be punished, according to the principle of 'good is rewarded and bad is punished,' opportunities for President Hu to make amends are limited.”

We Must Speak Openly An American Falun Gong practitioner, Mr. Jared Pearman, appealed to President George W. Bush for the protection of American values and human rights, hoping the President would understand and agree that no matter what the benefits offered as “hush money” by those who trample on human rights, we who uphold them must not remain silent.

By Rescuing the Orphaned Children of Falun Gong Practitioners, Hu Will Leave His Mark on History

A representative from the organization, “Global Mission to Rescue Persecuted Falun Gong Practitioners” (GMRPFGP) stated that it is not only the Falun Gong practitioners who are persecuted in China, but their children, too. The representative gave an example in which a four-month-old baby was left in a cardboard box when his parents were arrested. The baby broke his tiny fingernails attempting to get out of the box and eventually starved to death.

Another example was that of Liu Xiaotian, whose parents were arrested when he was 16 years old. He fled to Denmark with the help of kind-hearted people; after living as a fugitive for 18 months, he learned that his parents had been killed within five months of being arrested.

An American citizen, Charles Lee, was illegally arrested on January 22, 2003, by police at the Guangzhou airport when he landed in China to visit his parents. He was accused of “intending to tap into the national television system” and sentenced to three years in prison. Friends of Falun Gong wrote a letter to President Bush asking him to press Hu for Lee's release. Mr. Lee has already suffered through two years and eight months of incarceration, maltreatment, and brainwashing.

Falun Gong practitioners have been persecuted since July, 1999. There have been over 2,800 verified deaths of Chinese citizens, more than 6,000 have received lengthy prison sentences, hundreds of thousands have been sent to labor camps, and thousands have been forced into psychiatric hospitals, where they are tortured by injections of drugs that damage the central nervous system.

According to Minghui.net, a Falun Gong informational website, these verified cases show only a tiny fraction of the extent of the true death toll and extent of the persecution. Even conscientious officials of the CCP are resisting the persecution. Some of these officials have defected from Communist China to the free world, and many Chinese have quit the CCP, hoping for a future with freedom.
