Time for the shop-and-pamper-yourself event at Club One Fitness Center located on the stunning and fashionable promenades of Santana Row in San Jose. 45th International Taiko FestivalZellerbach Hall, UC Berkeley, Nov. 9–10

Drumroll, please! Now you can hear and see some of the top taiko champions from the Bay Area and Japan in the 45th International Taiko Festival. Scheduled to participate in this year’s event are Japan’s Grand Master Seiichi Tanaka and San Francisco’s Taiko Dojo, who were featured in four major motion picture movies: “The Right Stuff;” “Rising Sun,” starring Sean Connery and Wesley Snipes; George Lucas’ “Return of the Jedi;” and Francis Ford Coppola’s “Apocalypse Now.” Reserve the best seats in the house and don’t forget to bring your earplugs. Penguins & Pajamas Sleepovers at California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco

Unroll your sleeping bag and enjoy the museum’s unique after-hours experience. Listen to the evening songs of rainforest birds, interact with a penguin specialist, and learn about Pierre—the wetsuit-wearing penguin.
