ESPN host Samantha Ponder said that her newborn daughter had to undergo emergency surgery just days after her July 23 birth.

Ponder made the revelation in a series of Instagram pictures she shared on Monday, calling what happened “a series of terrifying and sudden events.”

Ponder’s daughter ultimately ended up in neonatal intensive care but is now recovering.

“Her recovery in the #NICU was nothing short of miraculous for a tiny body that had just undergone such trauma. I cannot thank the women who cared for her day and night enough,” Ponder wrote, sharing a picture of her holding the hand of the small girl.

“We are home now, still recovering, but overwhelmed with thankfulness for a God who provided real peace and comfort in the midst of our worst nightmare, incredible surgeons, doctors and nurses, parents who didn’t hesitate to jump on a plane and help and the prayers of friends and family who believed for her healing,” she added.

The reason for the surgery wasn’t detailed.

Ponder and husband Christian Ponder have two other children.

Ponder has been the host of “Sunday NFL Countdown” since 2017 when she replaced longtime host Chris Berman. Previously, Ponder was a sideline reporter for “College Gameday.”
