Christian singer Jeremy Camp’s recent surgery to address a severe heart condition has been deemed a success by his wife, Adrienne Camp, who shared updates and gratitude via social media.
“Just wanted to give you an update on Jeremy. He’s resting and has to lay completely flat for a while. He’s enjoying being spoon-fed by me. Lol! Surgery was a success, but it’ll take a few months to fully heal. We are beyond grateful for how you guys have cared for us in prayer. Also, so grateful for an incredible Dr and staff,” she wrote.
Mrs. Camp also included a biblical verse, Psalms 73:26, emphasizing faith in God’s strength during challenging times.
“There’s a lot of prayer warriors out there. People have been praying for me just for different things, and I’m super thankful for it. I have surgery on Monday. It’s a cardiac ablation; they’ll go through the veins on my leg, and they help this thing called AFib,” he said.
In light of his condition, Mr. Camp explained the impact atrial fibrillation (AFib) had on his health, mentioning a recent incident during a performance.
“My heart is in a crazy rhythm, and it was affecting a lot of things. And even tonight, I went into AFib on stage, and I cut the set short. And so that was difficult. It goes beats really, really fast, and I can’t breathe. It’s hard to function, and so I’m having surgery on Monday to take care of that,” he said.
According to the Mayo Clinic, AFib is a condition characterized by irregular and often rapid heart rhythms, known as arrhythmias, which can lead to the formation of blood clots in the heart and increase the risk of stroke, heart failure, and other cardiovascular complications. While some individuals with AFib may experience no symptoms, others may notice a fast, pounding heartbeat, shortness of breath, or dizziness.
Although AFib itself is typically not life-threatening, it requires proper treatment to prevent stroke. Treatment options may include medication, cardioversion therapy to restore a regular heart rhythm, and procedures aimed at blocking faulty heart signals. A related condition, atrial flutter, shares similar treatments and may occur alongside AFib.
Mr. Camp, who is known for hits like “Walk by Faith,” expressed his desire for continued prayers from his supporters, saying, “So thank you guys so much for being amazing for years and so supportive, and this is a big cry for your help and for prayer.”
Following the announcement, the singer received an outpouring of support from hundreds of people, including fellow Christian music artists, who offered words of encouragement. Mr. Camp reciprocated the kindness, expressing gratitude for the support.
The artist’s journey has been marked by challenges, including the loss of his first wife, Melissa Henning, to ovarian cancer, a story portrayed in the film “I Still Believe.” Through such trials, Mr. Camp has consistently leaned on his faith, finding solace in biblical verses like John 16:33: “I tell you these things so you will have peace.”
“The reason we have trials is because we live in a fallen world. There will be sickness and death. There will be financial issues, unknowns, and confusion. But Jesus reminds us that even in all of that, He’s defeated death and the sting of death,” he said.
