Riders put the ElliptiGO 8S to the testElliptiGO is the world’s first elliptical bike, as featured on The Doctors TV show, Dec. 28.

It’s a cross between a bicycle and an elliptical machine, which imitates the feel of running but without the impact that comes with the pounding of running.

The Doctors promoted ElliptiGO for people looking for a “low-impact, high-performance, cardio workout,” as well as those recovering from knee injuries.

Earlier this year, trail runner and triathlete Scott Dunlap test-drove an ElliptiGO with Bryan Pate, its inventor. Pate created the innovative device because hip and knee injuries had stopped him from joining Ironman and other endurance events.

Dunlap highly recommends the ElliptiGO for people who cannot run any more, due to wear and tear on joints.

“In fact, there are so many type-A competitors turning to ElliptiGO that this year they had their first World Championship up Palomar Mountain in San Diego, CA,” Dunlap posted on his trail runners blog.

Former marathoner Linda Copp, who lost the ability to run for fitness 15 years ago, swears by the ElliptiGO.

“It’s surprisingly easy to balance and, most importantly, it feels like I am actually running again out on the streets,“ Copp said in her testimonial on the ElliptiGO website. ”The first time I rode it was the most liberating and exhilarating experience because I felt like I was myself again.

“Over time I'd forgotten how much running meant to me as a person and it took the ElliptiGO to bring that experience back to me,” she added.

Marathon runners, including Dean Karnazes and Karen Barlow, have also endorsed the ElliptiGO for cross training.

“ElliptiGO is the best cross training device I’ve ever seen—bar none,“ Karnazes said on the ElliptiGO website. ”When I’m training, I like to follow up a hard run with a really hard ElliptiGO ride the next day. That way I can let my joints recover while I continue to build my cardiovascular strength.”

Karnazes uniquely tested out the ElliptiGO when he rode it almost 500 miles from San Francisco to arrive at the start of the Los Angeles Marathon in March. His “Epic Ride” is documented here .

The ElliptiGO is available to buy on the product website at $2,199.

On Facebook, ElliptiGO has created an “ElliptiGO Complimentary Public Test Ride Event” in Palm Springs, CA, to be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 1.
