SAN DIEGO,Ca.—After enjoying the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) 2009 World Tour matinee on a clear and sunny afternoon on Sunday Dec. 28 at the San Diego Civic Theatre, Gerry, a retired ice skater discovered “a whole new world.”

“They [dancers] do so many wonderful, beautiful movements—everything they do is beautiful, whereas in our culture—our culture’s things aren’t beautiful anymore. We have lost a lot of beauty in our culture. It’s gone, but in this culture things are still beautiful—the music with all the chimes and the gongs.”

After giving up skating, Gerry went into folk dancing, and she said that the inclusion of some folk dances in the DPA show is “just absolutely fabulous.” She was also impressed by the blend of Chinese and Western instruments in the orchestra, which opens “a whole new world,” he said.

“You know, beside the full orchestra, they have all the beautiful Chinese instruments that they have, you know, like the pipa, and some of the others, so it’s really wonderful.”

She was fascinated by the show and found the expertise, the music, the art, the technique, and the creativeness of the choreography—everything—all “wonderful.”

“They [performers] are seeking and striving for the ultimate spirituality in life to make the life down here better. It completes life, I mean if you try to live without dancing or live without art, there is just nothing, you know. You need all the artistic things.”
